After looking at Puzzle 10 more closely I have decided to make a slight change to the instructions.
On the page for puzzle 10 it says that I will only accept the first email from a player. I am removing this restriction. Due to the nature of the puzzle I feel that it is unfair to enforce it.
Fairly intimate knowlege of the entire game is needed to solve this one. I was trying to avoid someone new coming in at the last moment and solving the last puzzle. I wanted the winner to be someone who sweated through the first 9 puzzles.
It’s not really a guess. It’s something you’re looking for that you will send me via email. I guess I can accept 2 wrong emails. If the 3rd is wrong then you are obviously just guessing and will be eliminated from winning the game.
I mentioned on the message board for a previous puzzle (#8 I think) that there aren’t any hints or clues to the location of the answer to this puzzle. Knowlege of the game from the beginning will be very helpful in getting this one.
Major error on my part. There is an item on the www.cluechaser.com main site. The thumbprint. It is not one of the answers. Sorry about that. It was originally going to be but then I came up with something better and forgot to change the name. I am terribly sorry.
Fortunately it was pointed out before it was guessed so it didn’t cost anyone a wrong answer. Thanks to UncleBen for pointing that out.
Looks like some are very close to solving this. Unfortunately I have to go away for a few hours. In fact, I’m late. I will check again as soon as I can. Probably around 5 or 6pm PST. Good luck.
Rebus was my first guess, since if you take Puzzle 1 and apply it’s encryption code the the letters with arrows pointing to them in puzzle 2 you get ‘Rebus’ which is a kind of puzzle. Picture Puzzles to be exact. There’s the red herring…
If anyone wants to take the discussion off the board, as to not give away too much to people who haven’t gotten here yet, drop me an email at ted at tnghardware dot com
sent in an attempt. Does anyone see anything in the note besides the obvious clue? And has anyone been led beyond the result of that clue? A yes or no would suffice, if you don’t want to show all your cards.
Okay, I think I see what the obvious hint in the note is, but the item-or-items thus indicated don’t appear to be in any of the directories we’ve passed so far. Am I being dense here?
Well, I had a clever idea. But I wasn’t able to find anything on the web that fit the description of what I was looking for, so that’s not going to work.
Thank you to everyone that played. I hope you enjoyed it. I know I learned alot about making puzzles. This was my first time doing this. I will take what I learned and apply it to Game 2 which I hope to have ready sometime in March but it may be April.
Game 2 will be even better. It’s forming in my head. If you have suggestions please use the feedback section to send me your thoughts.
I would also like to know what you thought of this game. What you liked, didn’t like. What was your favorite puzzle, which was your least?
I am truly impressed with the caliber of problem solvers we have here. You are all much smarter than me. If I was playing I would have quit at the first puzzle.
Take care, have a great year, and I hope to see you all back for Game 2. Make sure the email address you registered with is correct and I will email you when I have more info on Game 2.
Thanks to everyone else as well who have agonized over the past month!
It was partly knowing that someone else had figured it out that made us try so hard to catch up all the time and being reassured that someone would drop a hint or make that intuitive leap that kept us in it.

yup, thats about it.
January 8th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
I’ll add that there’s a fantastic red herring in this if you really over complicate things. like me.
If Bill says so, I’ll post the red herring I found.
January 8th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
zeroskills,
Did you solve it?
January 8th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
LOL no, not yet.
January 8th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
I’ll tell you what it’s not. It’s not ‘REBUS’ (another kind of puzzle) but I’ll buy a doughnut for whoever tells me how I got that answer.
It’s also not the image of the watergate and church.
You’ve found the hint in the note, right?

January 8th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Yes zeroskillz, you may post your red herring.
Looks like some are very close to solving this. Unfortunately I have to go away for a few hours. In fact, I’m late. I will check again as soon as I can. Probably around 5 or 6pm PST. Good luck.
January 8th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Anybody else got any ‘what it’s nots’
January 8th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Found the hint in the note.
January 8th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Yup, that part wasn’t to difficult…
January 8th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Is that what you put in as your first guess?
January 8th, 2008 at 3:48 pm

You all may be on some page that I am not…
For that I wish you well and say that I may not be able to help anymore.
January 8th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
Okay, I’ve made a guess that I think is a pretty good one. Now I just have to wait and chew nails and so forth…
