I’m going to ASS-U-ME that the profile is the next puzzle.
Jaquars?
OXFORD all in caps?
Just kind-o stuck.
December 13th, 2007 at 12:41 pm
Hm… so many disparate bits of data on the profile.
December 13th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
Well, I’m at a loss for now.
Anatomical
Less is More
Can he do it?
Harry Back
Gust of Wind
Filthy Rich
Palendrome
Ben Affleck and Diamond
December 13th, 2007 at 8:01 pm
I signed in to look at the pics.
December 13th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
I think the Tuesday, October 23, 2007 post is the main clue.
December 13th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
All I find notable right now are the palindromes, but that doesn’t seem like something that will lead to a solution.
December 13th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
Whatever the solution it has to give a new web location and/or how to get there. There is a site listed in the Pics.
Hmmm.
December 13th, 2007 at 11:42 pm
I am absolutely stuck on this one.
The only clue I can see is the Palindrome.
I now know that Oxford, NJ is the location of an early iron furnace, on the National Register of Historic Places and may have been named for Oxford in England or a man named Axford.
I can’t find 2 Adelaide Terrace, Dame St., Islington, London.
There is a Dame St., Islington, Greater London.
That and all the Punny Names.
ARG.
Does anyone know if there is a specific name for a name that sounds like a phrase?
If there are some logical clues in the profile they are increadibly subtle and I am missing them totaly.
December 14th, 2007 at 6:34 am
Here’s an information summary, in the hope it spurs some insight.
// “They put the ‘z z z’ back in news”
* Two palindromes: ‘A Santa at NASA’ & ‘Did Joe Kill Like OJ DID’
* Fake names ‘Les Izmore’, ‘Kenny Dewitt’, ‘Harry Bach’, ‘Gus Tyvwynd’, ‘Phil Thirich’ - probably red herrings
- Not much information here, other than the palindromes. Some of the ‘about me’ information is phrased weirdly, maybe this is a hint to find a palindrome from them.
// a legless man on the phone
// “Puzzles r gr8. Check out puzzles.com”
- a weird maze picture which doesn’t have any apparent significance. Do we need to find some puzzles at puzzles.com?
// The postcard
* Anna tomical
* 2 Adelaide Terrace, Dame St., Islington, London
* Dear Lou, just a line to let you know I am alright. Sorry to keep you waiting for a letter - prob red herring
* Postmark is from Aberdeen, July 10 07 (?) - prob red herring
// I like animals
“Not just your basic pets (dogs, cats, birds, etc) but all animals. Especially wild ones. I’ve had many animals as pets, even a kangaroo.”
- sounds interesting.
// About me
Loads of information here, some of it I’m sure is just red herring. I’ve reproduced the interesting-sounding stuff.
”
Favorite color - Blue
Name of my pet kangaroo - Hoppety Hip (yes, I know it’s corny)
My favorite number - Ten
Animals I slam in a net:
…
10. Jaquars
Most desired shape - Diamond
Favorite drink - Peach tea
”
note: Jaquars not Jaguars! Google seems to think this is linked to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
// I love puzzles
“I like all kinds, logic problems, crosswords, jumble, word find, mazes, sudoku. There are lots more. I like to find online puzzles too”
- Mention of mazes is interesting. Maybe we will need to solve all these kinds of puzzle to get the answer.
// Some day
“Some day I want to take some time to sit on a rock and contemplate the cosmos.
Some day I want to focus real hard and cause myself to spontaneously combust.
Some day I want to be free of all influences.
Some day I want to walk in a parallel dimension.
Some day I want swing from the Tree of Life.
Some day I want to say “That day I did” instead.”
- Are these crossword puzzle clues? An acrostic ?
// Being watched
“I can’t seem to shake the feeling that I’m being watched. I look around, no one there. It’s like a dark shadow in the corner of my peripheral vison. I find myself calling out “Whose there?”. Not suprisingly, no one answers.”
- ‘vison’, ‘whose’, ’suprisingly’ are all typos. Significant?
// Other profile info
He is apparently a Pisces.
He is from ‘OXFORD, New Jersey, United States’
December 14th, 2007 at 7:22 am
I was asked to provide a hint. It’s a little early for that I think. You are all on the right track. I will tell you that you don’t have to go anywhere else to get the answer.
As for typo’s. Well, I actually pride myself on my spelling ability so I’m surprised and irritated to know that there are typos.
December 14th, 2007 at 7:24 am
“animals i slam in a net”, a list of ten animals; “ten animals I slam in a net” is a palindrome.
December 14th, 2007 at 9:53 am
Something to do with a palindrome and puzzles.com.
?
December 14th, 2007 at 9:55 am
The longest palindromic word in the OXFORD English Dictionary is Tattarrattat.
I’ve tried it at the site as an address extention and in the search engine.
Didn’t work.
December 14th, 2007 at 1:19 pm
Possible Red Fish.
From Thursday, November 08, 2007
…contemplate the cosmos.
… spontaneously combust.
…free of all influences.
…parallel dimension.
…Tree of Life.
“Tree of Life” is also called the “Kabbalah”
Is there a single word for each of the others?
December 17th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
Finally caught up! One quick question for those successful with Puzzle #5: do I need to register/log-in to the website to view important clues?
December 17th, 2007 at 1:40 pm
Not to muddy the waters any more but if I put my two bits in it may help someone else.
So the word/clue is probably a palindrome. Probably but not certainly.
The word/clue must be combined with a website to get us to Puzzle #6. The only websites I found in Puzzle #5 were OurPlanet from the main page (/OurPlanet off the website), cluechaser.com from the postcard, newspaper and funny pic, and finally puzzles.com from the maze picture. My money is on cluechaser.com or cluechaser.net.
The paper talks about two rovers, a double homicide, a copy-cat murder. Pisces is a sign of twin fish. Maybe we’re looking for twins. A palindrome could be considered a sort of mirror reflection of the other word.
Mars in mythology was linked to Ares who gives us Aries the zodiac sign.
Kangaroos keep their kids in a pouch.
Is the stamp on the postcard relevant?
What is the half-man talking into?
Why Hoppety-Hip?
December 17th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
A baby kangaroo is called a “Joey”
December 17th, 2007 at 8:00 pm
Ben Affleck gave Jennifer Lopez a 6.1 carat diamon from Harry Winston.
He then returned it? and got a 4.5 carat for Jennifer Garner, also from Harry Winston.
December 17th, 2007 at 9:45 pm
Oxford, Dr. of XO.
Tic-Tac-Toe?
Noughts and Crosses?
December 18th, 2007 at 7:05 am
I am totally drawing a blank. None of it seems to make sense.
Also, I just want to clarify that the typos are not part of the puzzle.
December 18th, 2007 at 7:13 am
Palindrome is the key. You’ve already found the most important one. It’s been posted on the board, although not 100% accurately. Just need to look at it differently.
December 18th, 2007 at 9:19 am
Finally I got it.
December 18th, 2007 at 11:19 am
Now that’s funny.
I think Oxford, Dr. of XO was a clever palindrome.

If I do say so myself.
December 18th, 2007 at 1:32 pm
If someone has given you a puzzle it can sometimes help if you’ve seen other puzzles they have come up with. For someone to have gotten to #5 it means they had to work though 1, 2, 3, and 4. For me, looking at the pieces and clues of this puzzle while keeping in mind the way the puzzle designer has done things in the past helped greatly. Seems pretty common sense but it’s easy to forget a real person set up these puzzles and that real person has their own tastes, quirks, and ways of doing things.
I also liked Gulrad’s palindrome.
December 19th, 2007 at 9:19 am
Okay, I got it while I was driving in the car. My second try, actually, because it actually would have been possible to make it a tiny bit more symmetrical. I managed to guess without ever successfully logging in (still don’t now what that password hint means), and I have no idea what all of the other random stuff here is supposed to have been all about. Just camouflage, I guess.
December 19th, 2007 at 9:43 am
Symmetrical?
December 19th, 2007 at 2:21 pm
Not all URLs are “www.”
December 21st, 2007 at 2:05 am
What is a thing that one can catch fish in, and, end a www address in?
December 26th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
nuts. got this one. really need to go to bed it’s almost midnight
dang fun!
December 31st, 2007 at 8:14 am
Did you really have a kangaroo?
December 31st, 2007 at 8:29 am
Well I’m not Joe. He’s another figment of my imagination. I’ve never had, nor will I likely ever have, a kangaroo.
