At first I thought this might be a government building because of what looks to be flags at the bottom. Then I thought maybe a hotel.

An odd looking building… Are the tiered balconies significant and what is on the roof? Would you say the building itself is the clue or something you can see from the building (specifically behind the building)?

  3. mappleby Says:
    December 18th, 2007 at 10:07 am

All good questions… I scanned it pretty carefully, there doesn’t seem to be anywhere to click on it like the other pic. I would think we need to figure out what building it is.

Does one look like a Canadian Flag?

    Are the Flags at half-mast?

    It’s spring time for sure.

    Nice View.

The balconies remind me of that comercial, “More Bars Everywhere”

I think we are looking Northwest at about noon.

  6. Kewljenoh Says:
    December 18th, 2007 at 1:21 pm

How can you tell what time of day it is and what direction you are facing?

  7. mappleby Says:
    December 18th, 2007 at 1:35 pm

Ok so I know which hotel it is. Anyone else? How does this figure in?

  8. Gulrad Says:
    December 18th, 2007 at 1:55 pm

    Kewljenoh,

The shadows are short and it’s late spring. At noon they would be pointing north.

I’m assuming northern hemisphere, around the 45th parralel +/- 5 DEG.

    Is that right mappleby?

Don’t know what hotel. Big round thing on top though.

  9. Gulrad Says:
    December 18th, 2007 at 6:38 pm

I’m pretty sure I know what it is, I’m not so sure about the wording of the guess.

  10. Gulrad Says:
    December 18th, 2007 at 7:45 pm

    Well, it isn’t “APPLE”

    ;)

  11. Gulrad Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 1:43 am

The most prominent aspect of this photo is the number of balconies.

Other than that, the size of the photo itself.

I have tried every permutation that I can think of along those lines.

I would be interested to know what hotel it is, if it is not a direct link to the answer.

    Are those dogwoods?

  12. Kewljenoh Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 6:38 am

I will tell you it is a hotel with political signifigance. But I still can”t come up with the passcode.

  13. Cowpattybill Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 7:04 am

There is more to this puzzle than meets the eye.

  14. Kewljenoh Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 7:40 am

    well, that’s fairly vague.

  15. mappleby Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 7:50 am

I thought maybe the passcode is where the view is coming from. But I tried some guesses and nothing yet. Does anyone think the title of the pic has anything to do with it?

  16. mappleby Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 8:11 am

The flags do look 1/2 mast, but I tried combinations of why that would be and nada so far, so I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it. Also I found the same pic on the web and it doesn’t appear to be doctored.

  17. UncleBen Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 9:01 am

Thank you Kewljenoh, I was having a hard time finding the hotel.

I don’t know if this is getting too tangential away from the picture but could it be the historical/social implications of its history or should we stick with what we can see in the picture/what we can see from the hotel?

  18. Kewljenoh Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 9:22 am

No problem. I think I tried all the words, that I can think of, associated with its nefarious past. But I think that there is something we are missing.

  19. jjcote Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 9:44 am

That was my first wild guess as to what building it was, using the trees as a clue (meaning that they aren’t dogwoods), and looking at a picture of it, the balconies seem to match. There are a couple of photo links on Google Earth in the vicinity, one of which is of a funeral. I’m wondering if maybe the picture has been modified somehow. I’m pretty sure it isn’t a mirror image, because I think I’ve located the spot from which it was taken (pretty close, anyway).

  20. Cowpattybill Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 9:50 am

Since you’ll need your energy for the next few puzzles I will give a little clue here.

You’re chasing in the wrong direction. One of mappleby’s posts hints at a different direction. I don’t think he or she realizes it.

  21. Gulrad Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 12:32 pm

All I have discovered for “hiden” things is the link to the hit counter and a title in the source code that led me in the direction I went first.

  22. Kewljenoh Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 12:37 pm

I am assuming that the key word in your hint is direction? This stuff is making my head spin.

  23. Gulrad Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 12:42 pm

I think this is what Cowpattybill is refering to:

    mappleby Says:
    December 18th, 2007 at 10:07 am
All good questions… I scanned it pretty carefully, there doesn’t seem to be anywhere to click on it like the other pic…..

  24. Cowpattybill Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 1:08 pm

Sorry Gulrad, not correct. And no Kewljenoh, direction is not the key word.

Although mappleby and Gulrad have both mentioned the clue now.

  25. Kewljenoh Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 1:36 pm

Is this game giving anyone else an inferiority complex? Because I am just not seeing it. I even looked at the source code and I think I see the strange title that Gulrad was referring to, but beyond that I don’t understand internet speak to well.

  26. jjcote Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 2:31 pm

OK, well, there’s an obvious clue, and yes, I do like it. Although it’s not so obvious how to do any. Right?

  27. Cowpattybill Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 3:02 pm

You shouldn’t feel inferior. You’re subject to my imagination. I created each puzzle to be a different type and require a different solution. If they were all cyphers or palindromes that would be one thing. Each of these requires a completely different way of thinking to solve it.
Like I’ve said before, they are designed so that one person can’t solve them all by themselves. It’s a collaborative effort with the message board for you to help each other out yet try not to let anyone get ahead of you.

One person could look at this puzzle and in 2 minutes figure out the secret. It might take someone else 10 minutes, once the secret is pointed out, to solve it. Neither could do it on their own. Without those 2 people (and I’m not referring to anyone in particular) you could be here awhile.
I suggest getting friends and family involved. Fresh eyes and minds can see things you might have otherwise missed.

  28. Gulrad Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 4:03 pm

Ok maybe this will help someone else figure this out.

If we are using “Hope you like math” as a hint then I was going with the divisions on the balconies.

The bottom has one, and onother for one, the next up has two, the next three, the top five.

    1,1,2,3,5

The start of the Fibonacci Sequence.

  29. jjcote Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 6:41 pm

I volunteer to be the second person. Somebody please point out the secret to me.

    :-)

  30. Gulrad Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 8:26 pm

As far as I can tell the only thing mappleby and I have mentioned is “title”

Does anyone think the title of the pic has anything to do with it?
    and
All I have discovered for “hiden” things is the link to the hit counter and a title in the source code that led me in the direction I went first.

  31. Gulrad Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 8:37 pm

I GOT SOMETHING! and it DOES have to do with a title.

  32. Gulrad Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 9:03 pm

Cowpattybill, I am starting to wonder if you are indeed evil.
    :)

    Hotel
    Church?
    Muppet
    Camera
    Hotel
    Jersey
    Mongolian?
    Statue

I hope someone else gets it soon so I don’t have to be alone in my misery.

This is only the next part of #6! Right?

  33. jjcote Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 9:21 pm

Gulrad, do you have the passcode? Or just something to make progress on? (Which is more than I have…)

  34. Gulrad Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 9:37 pm

    Something to make progress on.

The following is a very strong hint because, well just because:

What is the title of the pic?

    (Right Click, Save As)

  35. jjcote Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 9:56 pm

    Well, yes, it’s a number, I knew that…

  36. jjcote Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 9:57 pm

    Oh. Got it.

  37. jjcote Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 10:19 pm

And I think I know a bit more, as well… ah, got it! A few things to bear in mind: it’s not the nationality, it’s the position in the family. And the important part of the church (or whatever it is) is where it’s located. And I got to look at some very pleasing pictured of Adriana while I verified that. :-) The key for me was that some of these things matched each other.

    On to #7!

  38. Gulrad Says:
    December 19th, 2007 at 10:44 pm

    jjcote,

just to make sure I’m on the right track, is that an “alpha” on the camera?

  39. jjcote Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 4:48 am

    Yes on the camera.

  40. Kewljenoh Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 9:03 am

I still can’t figure out how to get past the picture

  41. jjcote Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 9:17 am

You need more pictures. Figure out how to find them. The Watergate picture is the first one.

  42. Kewljenoh Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 10:56 am

wow, am I an idiot. Thanks I figured that part out.

  43. Cowpattybill Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 11:26 am

You guys lost me on the whole Adriana thing.

The whole “Hope you like math” was from puzzle 3. I used the same java script for the passcode and forgot to remove the title tag.

Fibonacci Sequence! Brilliant. Why didn’t I think of that?

  44. Kewljenoh Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 11:28 am

Great now I have 8 pictures, some have some things in common, but I still feel lost. And don’t go giving Cowpattybill any ideas.

  45. Kewljenoh Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 11:29 am

oh, and by the way Adriana LIMA is a brazillian supermodel.

  46. jjcote Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 12:12 pm

I wonder if reusing code is why the Puzzle #7 image is also called “Nice View”…

  47. Gulrad Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

    Cowpattybill,

Re Fibonacci: Thanks. The reference to “apple” was related to that.

The Adriana/Andrea thing is from a google image search.

    I belive jjcote searched “Lima”

    I searched “Yellow Church”

“WARNING” I don’t filter my search results.

I am amazed at some of the things that come up when researching the clues to these puzzles.

    ;)

  48. Cowpattybill Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 12:50 pm

Uhh..yes, jjcote, that would be why. “Nice View” has nothing to do with the puzzle.

  49. UncleBen Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 1:40 pm

Okay, got to the other pictures. Still not sure how to combine them into one passcode. Can someone explain the nature of how they are connected? I am very close but still need one final tidbit to make the connection.

  50. Gulrad Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 1:55 pm

Ever spend any time in the military?

Waching a movie/tv-show with lots of talking over a radio by men/women in uniform?

  51. Kewljenoh Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 2:54 pm

I am so close to this one now. I understand the Alpha reference but for some reason I am not seeing it in some of the pictures.

  52. UncleBen Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 3:08 pm

Don’t look for alpha more than once.

Each picture results in one “clueword” which will give you one “clueletter” which you can re-assemble into the correct password.

  53. Jack Hare Says:
    December 20th, 2007 at 11:47 pm

WOOHOO! Got it. You guys put some terrific hints up here — particularly jjcote’s note about some of the items matching.

  54. zeroskillz Says:
    December 26th, 2007 at 10:02 pm

    well got the pix.
I’m not sure how I ended up at this site…but thanks for putting it together. Having a great time with this.

    now to figure them out…

  55. zeroskillz Says:
    December 26th, 2007 at 11:23 pm

alright this ones got me fried. is it safe to say it’s an eight letter word? night all.
