I think d4 should read “EAW” and e4 should read “APCNG”.

Well, I hope you’re wrong. I rechecked it 3 times. Each from a different source. Please email me how you came about that thought so I can see if you’re on the right path. -Thanks.

Crud! You’re right. Three different people looked at it and we all missed it. Tedious work as I’m sure you can imagine. I will fix it. Thanks for catching it.

Fixed!

So now that you’ve had some time to look at this one. What are your thoughts?

I’ve uncovered the message, but I don’t know what to do with it yet.

The first part was fun! Now for the second half..

Mystified. Got the message. Took the steps. Went somewhere with it, but it was parked. Assume red herring. Back to drawing board.

Solved.

Got the message, but not sure where to go yet.

Something going on with the quess button?

Nope. Just checked it and the correct answer works.

Hmmm…
Message decoded, pictures identified, no connections made…I just know I’m missing something obvious again…

Yep, same here.

This is, by the way, my favorite puzzle.

Is anyone still here with me?

Still here. Just chasing down improbable conjectures now; time for a break.

Hey tower, good to see you. I was wondering where you were. The winners of game 1 (UncleBen) and game 2 (towerofbabel) are both playing. Where’s your co-winner, e8?

The men have an attribute that you can apply to the message to find out where to go next.

Anyone interested in some brainstorming?

Do you think we need the men to find the answer or are they for “later”?

Any idea if her last sentence is significant?

I keep looking for something to count, but don’t see it.

I even began studying a map, but could only find one of the streets I was looking for.

What other ideas have you tried?

I’ve only found one thing from the sentence to link to one of the guys,.. Nothing else from it though.

Klaatu, there is something in the sentence for each of them?

I found the one clear connection, but I think that might just be a red herring. I’ve tried applying a few different to attributes to the message, but no luck…

Indiedezz/mrsmathteacher

The one clear connection is the one that you need. Consider the attribute shared by the men. Apply that directly to the message you have decoded. This will yield something useful for the next step.

klaatu and I are now on puzzle 5 - but now headed for bed as it is late on this side of the Atlantic.

Okay, let’s see if my one clear connection is the same as yours Mrs Mathteacher,.. and I’ll see if this loves me, or loves me not.

hmm,… coincidence? Or am I actually getting somewhere?

Not sure mrsmathteacher, but it sounds like you might be in the general ball park (no hint intended).

Loves me…
But when I count in order, I don’t get anything

Loves me? Loves me not? Huh?!?

I think I figured out the next step,.. now where to go from here… next prob

Is there an attribute other than the obvious?

UGH…Never mind - didn’t see the forest for the trees - for the SECOND DAY IN A ROW!!!

Too much summer vacation?

Now I’m back to thinking loves me not…

How are you doing indiedezz? I haven’t foound the needle in the haystack yet…

I am beginning to think that each person’s “obvious” attribute is something totally different.

Things aren’t clicking for me.
I know where I’m supposed to be looking, but I can’t find anything that works.

I’m the poster child for doing things the absolute hardest way. I assume from the ease with which everyone tore through the grid message that it isn’t some exotic solution.

I realized this after cutting all of the pieces out and trying to piece them together.

How easy is it? If it’s too easy I’m pretty sure I’ll never see it.

Any tips for a late night clue chaser?

To solve the grid, you need to use information from the previous puzzle.

I know its late but this text is hidden on the web page

“Maybe these guys can help you once you solve the puzzle”

Re the “obvious” connection - These people are connected in series, not in parallel. They can point you in the direction you need.

Nono, I think I figured out what you guys are talking about a while ago, found the where, now I’m in the dark about what to do now that I’m here.

UncleBen, I don’t know if you’ve figured it out yet, but this puzzle, at least the grid part relies heavily on the information you pulled from the video on the last puzzle and the answer, combine those and you’re off!

Believe I have ref for LBJ to do with an Ad.
and a possible for Reagan to do with communication. Is this the right direction?
Can find anything for the other two.

and can’t really see yet where my LBJ and Reagan clues might help.

Maybe I need an American education : )

If you need anymore help UncleBen. The Numbers are the key. The Letters are the direction.

solved, through subtle and somewhat inexplicable means… I’m not at all sure that I arrived at the answer through the intended method.

and to cowpattybill– e8 is on vacation far from civilization. he will be back tomorrow, but it looks as though the game will not last that long.

Possibly. There are still a couple tricks up E’s sleeve I think.

tower - for curiosities sake, email me how you derived the answer.

The Numbers are the key. The Letters are the direction.

Literally or figuratively?

Ok - even after looking with a fresh eye I can’t find the answer. I got both messages.

Soozook- those relationships are just “extra” to the puzzle, not required.

But I can’t for the life of me figure out what to put in the guess blank. I’m beginning to get very angry…

UncleBen - literal

mrsmathteacher - having got the messages, did they take you anywhere?

If they did not, try reading out loud, slowly, the bits that the chaps pointed you to. That should yield an “aha” moment.

(Hard to say more without giving all away and spoiling someone’s fun, sorry)

Yes - they led me somewhere about 20 hours ago, but that’s where I’m stuck.
I feel as though I’m surrounded by a chain link fence.
Nothing is clicking in my head.

a word from cowpattybill reveals to me that the method was not as inexplicable as I thought. still subtle, but not out of reach.

Ok - at that place. Look around for a puzzling connection. Make the connection. You may find yourself saying that you “still don’t understand” If you do, then you are very close to the answer.Think simplistically.

You’ll groan/beat your head on the keyboard/scream

The Numbers are the key. The Letters are the direction.

I’m not sure I’d agree with that statement. At least not in reference to the outside of the board. Which is probably what UncleBen is thinking you mean.

Hmmm…
Should I be looking near the front door or in one of the back rooms? (I can’t find anything satisfying in either place yet)

Mrsmathteacher, just keep in mind what you’re looking for.

mrsmathteacher - one level down from the left hand side of the front door. That’ll do it. If you try not to think too deeply about it you should recognise the right stairway with no difficulty

BTW - do you like Toyah Wilcox’s songs? Shame about the speech impediment, though.

OMG!!!! I swear i thought I put that answer in forever ago! Grr to spaces and plurals! Next time I’ll know better!

I’d chucked my notes from the previous puzzle so I went back and have the numbers and letters again.

Nothing is immediately apparent.

I would like to follow the moves that others have but am just not quite sure how yet.

You just said it UncleBen.

Also, never chuck your notes.

YEP - FINALLY
Banged my head-screamed-perhaps even a bit of profanity…
Read that thing 400 times and tried lots of answers…
And like Indiedezz, I thought I had put that answer in before as well…
And I think I know Bill’s friend REALLY well now!

Got it. Finally.

The exchange of comments about puzzle #9 forces my hand a little.

At this point I have no idea how to proceed. I have the numbers and letters again. I think I know the idea of how to move forward but it’s possible my algebra is bad.

I need help. Forgive my lack of understanding, the clues are well written but I still don’t get it.

How’s this.

puzzle 2’s answer/phrase and decoded numerical values applied to puzzle 3.

UncleBen - there is no algebra needed.

1) Take the answer from the previous puzzle - with it’s input prompt

2) place it in the context of what you gleaned from the numbers in that puzzle

3) Take some assistance from an external and appropriate resource

apply the lot to the current puzzle methodically and remember it’s a game (or quite a few). The answer is all there, in black and white.

Check?

I had thought of that except there were 24 of them.

How do you pick the right one?

Correction: 21

Start with 1 and see how far you get.

I wonder if in this case it’s actually the destination and not the journey.

I had been thinking movements but maybe it’s more like a snapshot after moves have been made…

Remember the answer phrase from puzzle 2

It’s the movement and not the snapshot.

It’s Follow, not take a picture of.

I had initially thought it might be the positioning at the end of the game for each (snapshot) but that doesn’t sound like it after the extra hinting and it doesn’t fit.

I started with match one and after the Nimzo-Indian defense it was over. This would be fine with me except the letters I get do not a sentence make.

I’m following historical moves and will see how far I can get in the other games.

Maybe I’m not patient enough, back after trying the others.

UncleBen - you seem to be going too deep/involved. You are exactly right - it was quickly over and no, you don’t get a sentence, just the beginning of one.

Remember the prompt and the answer from the previous puzzle - glued together, that’s all you need. Do as it says. It’s not the Yellow Brick Road… perhaps simply a crowning achievement?

Start at the beginning, go as far as you need.

OK. Now the pressure is off maybe someone can help me finish this.

Currently I think I’m looking for an attribute that links these ppl that is obvious. The only obvious thing I can find is they are all Presidents.
OK now the message seems to be suggesting I go to a website with no dots dashes or .com yes?

#54 and #56 seems to suggest some sort of house. so as well as presidents I have tried whitehouse but still don’t seem to be getting anywhere.
anymore clues for a lost soul??

I started working on decoding the message yesterday and ran into some snags (think I copied stuff down wrong) - but then got sidetracked with the olympics.

Got to work this morning and was going to print out what I needed only to find that the sites are filtered! Boo!

Soozook - You need to be ordered about this. There’s something unique about each US president. Use that unique thing for each of the four you see here and apply it to the message you’ve decoded.

Well - I found where I need to go - but its going to have to wait till after work. Dang internet filters!

It took forever to make the right connections but…

Anyone still stuck up to this point?

Thanks Klaatu.
So one unique thing for each president that sets them apart from the others.
Is it safe to say its an attribute rather than a political stance or outcome they may have been a part of?

I finally got it - now that I can view where I needed to be. :) Onto the next!

Hang on after rereading #76. Are you saying there is a unique thing that applies to ALL presidents. That I then somehow apply to THESE four (suggesting the unique thing has different applications for each) and the message to get a location.

It’s unique but they have it in common.

Each of them was a president but not at the same time.

If you’re at the point you were consider posts #19, 22, 24, 39, 49, 52, 56, 76

They suggest how to pull the words you need out of the message and then follow those words to the site where the treasure was hidden.

Oh. doh…..

Anyone still around for help? I was away so I’m late in going through this.
I believe I found where I need to go (In fact, I go there every Friday for updates). Is what I need still where it should be?

Got it with a final revelation/shot in the dark.

BTW, nice collaboration, I’ve been watch BtAF for well over 10 years.

And I ‘m sure Steve appreciates it. I went to school with him since 2nd grade. He’s a good friend. I make him autograph his books (although I still have to pay for them). I haven’t gotten the newest one yet, but I will.
