Does each letter stand for a word? Or are they anagrams? Is it a sort of phonetic device? Backwards gives me a few halves of words that are intriguing. First I thought leet and then 3,000 meetings and 8mam could be mam8 which could be ma m8 which would be ma mate or my mate or my friend. 11cc as an example could mean a lot if each letter stood for a separate word. Is there some sort of way to know those words?
I’m chasing the white rabbit on this one and missing the obvious.

You are spot on about 11cc.
Apply that method to all clues.
As for working them out. Some may require intuitive leaps.
Some are easily found through research if you guess some of the ’small’ words ‘in a’ for instance.
Some might be easier once you have a couple of answers in the crossword.
Some you may never know without help. Eg. Clue 1 for me would have been impossible without cowpatties hint.
I’ll be away for a day or two. If your still struggling I’ll leave a few more clues then.

I tried to make up some of my own that weren’t already part of someone else’s list. That was pretty hard. I think I came up with 2 or 3 originals.
There’s a name for this kind of puzzle (not the crossword part) but I can’t remember what it is. I like the idea of combining the two types.
This is actually a confusing puzzle. On two different occasions I had to read through my notes because I couldn’t remember how to solve it. Once I even had to solve it myself because I wasn’t confident that the answer was correct. But, it was.
Just finished all the clues! Now on to the next part.
I never actually found any similar puzzles while searching for answers (though I have seen them before). But, that’s probably a good thing because it forced me to solve them myself (or with help from friends and other cluechasers).
Diltoid huh? Sounds like another epithet to add to my repetoire, along with Boner Tard.
Speaking of boner tards, I’ve found two connections. One in her December archive referencing the Puzzle Master series and her enjoyment of Indiana Jones movies.
