Things have been quiet on the ClueChaser front lines. I’ve been taking a break and enjoying my family and celebrating the holidays. Now that we have entered the new year I am shifting my focus back to ClueChaser. Back to creating the remaining puzzles needed to launch the final game in the Mr. E. Series. Yes, Game 3: Chasing Shadows is part 3 of 3. After the game is over I will likely switch gears and move into a larger, one game a year, type thing. Maybe have teams or something like that. I don’t know. I have to get through this next game first and see where we are. I promised my kids I would create a kids version of ClueChaser so I have to do that next.
I wish all of you a great new year. May it be better than last year. Get your thinking caps on because Game 3 looks like it will be the toughest of all. I’m currently looking at a mid to late February release date.
See you then.

Two legs sat on Three-legs by Four-legs.
One leg knocked Two-legs off Three-legs;
Two-legs hit Four-legs with Three-legs.

An example of a widespread “leg riddle”. An old man sat down on a three-legged stool to milk his cow. When the cow kicked him, he hit her with the stool.

Take 500 from the opposite of light, and tell me where your father’s father dwelt in the time of the Deluge.

The Ark. Dark is the opposite of light: 500 in Roman letters is D: this leaves Ark

So the site looks a little different. I decided it was time for a change. I wanted a new look and new colors. So far the feedback has been positive. I guess people were tired of the blue and gray. I don’t know how long I will stick with the current look. I am continuing my search but for now, this is the one that stays. In the meantime, please be patient while I move things around. The layout is different and some of the links are missing (like the Clue Club). I’ll have them back shortly.
One the puzzling front, game 3 development is continuing to progress but at a very slow pace. My personal life has gotten very hectic. Hopefully soon it will slow down and allow me more time for puzzle creating.
I dropped a major sub puzzle (by that I mean something like in game one where each correct answer gave you a number that was part of a set of coordinates) which was really bogging my mind down trying to figure out how to do it. With it out of the picture it has freed me up to think bigger and as it turns out, the game will be better without it. Double bonus!
Still looking at a December release. A new teaser video should be out in a couple weeks.

Things are progressing.
Not as quickly as I might like but progressing just the same. The second teaser video is out and ready for your viewing pleasure. You can find it at the bottom of the videos section.
Don’t forget to join the Clue Club. It’s only $5 and gives you some nice perks like a 4 hour head start! You also get DOUBLE the prize money, discounts at the Gear Up! store and members-only newsletters that also contain puzzles to solve.
The way it’s shaping up, Game 3: Chasing Shadows will have fewer puzzles than the other games so that 4 hour head start may be quite valuable.
On a different note. I posted a series of Lateral Thinking puzzles that were solved suprisingly fast but seemed to be fun. You can still try to fgure them out. The answer is hidden so you can review the questions without stumbling upon the answer. Feel free to ask more questions. The answer is available by clicking the “Show” link which will reveal the answer.
Anyway. back to puzzle design…..

A normal submarine was on the surface of the sea with its hatches open. It sailed due east for two miles. Then it stopped and went down 30 feet. It then sailed another half mile before going down a further 30 feet. All this time it kept its hatches fully open. The crew survived and were not alarmed in any way. What was going on?

The ship was passing through the Panama Canal which is a series of locks that lower a ship (or submarine) down to the level of the other ocean

While doing some puzzle research I came across the idea of lateral thinking puzzles. What is a lateral thinking puzzle? Basically it’s a short story that provides some clues. You, the player, read it and ask me questions to gather additional information, formulate assumptions, and test possible solutions. To the questions you ask I can respond with only “Yes”, “No”, “Irrelevant”, or “Rephrase”. Some situations may have more than one possible solution but you’re trying to figure out the specific solution I have.
This seems like it might be some fun so I thought we could give it a try. It may take a couple of games to get the hang of it. It’s a nice way to spend your time while you wait for Game 3: Chasing Shadows to come out.
I will send out an email to all registered players letting them know about these lateral thinking puzzles. Once that is done (probably tomorrow, Wednesday) I will post the first one the next day (Thursday). There will be a link on the main page to access the puzzles. You will be able to read the scenario and begin posting questions. I will do my best to answer the questions as quickly as I can. Once the puzzle is solved I will post the next one. Eventually I’ll be able to determine an appropriate time frame for each puzzle and begin posting them at specific intervals (perhaps weekly).
Hopefully you will find them as interesting and challenging as I think they might be. It seems a little corny in the beginning but after a few are completed I think we’ll get into the swing of it.
Good luck.
